Step OSStaple™ & Step BOSS

Description & Technology

The Step OSStaple™ and Step BOSS implants conform to uneven bony surfaces while simultaneously offsetting and compressing bone fragments.  Made of Nitinol, these implants provide compression by morphing from an open shape to a closed shape upon activation to a safe, non-necrotic temperature. The implants then store heat energy to behave like springs, maintaining a powerful compressive force at body temperature. The result is a stepped implant system that provides continuous compression through the active reduction of bone fragments throughout the healing process.

Features

  • The first and only implant of its kind able to simultaneously apply controllable dynamic residual compression at the site of fixation while offsetting the osteotomy with the utilization of the patented OSSforce™ Implant Controller.
  • The implants maximize bony union with the absence of hardware through the healing interface.
  • Actively reduces the site during healing, reducing the negative effects of resorption on primary bone healing while complementing Wolff's Law.
