Research
BME was founded in 1991 as a biomedical research firm, working closely with leading teaching institutions and some of the world’s largest orthopaedic companies on various bone healing research projects. Over time BME entered the medical device market searching for products that would help bones heal faster and better. Through collaborations with a worldwide network of research and innovation, BME was introduced to memory metal compression bone staples and soon became the first to market heat-activated shape memory devices in the United States.
Innovation
Not satisfied, BME decided to take the concept one step further and develop the ability to control the compressive forces these implants exert. In order to make the system suitable for a vast variety of applications under varying degrees of bone qualities, we created and patented the OSSforceTM Implant Controller.
Manufacturing
The next step was to bring all manufacturing activities in-house in order to ensure the best quality control possible while protecting our intellectual property. BME remains the only U.S. manufacturer of Nitinol bone staples.
Today
BME has fully evolved into a Reconstructive Bone Fusion product company with the most comprehensive line of shape memory bone fusion implants. With impending launches of a vast array of new products as well as improvements on goldstandard designs, BME remains focused on providing surgeons highly advanced solutions to ensure better patient results.
Tomorrow
As the worldwide leader in the understanding of memory metal and its orthopaedic applications, BME will continue to develop products that will solve problems seen on a daily basis by extremity surgeons. BME is also expanding its reach in the extremity marketplace with the intent to deliver innovative niche products beyond the scope of memory metal. We are currently looking at all areas within the extremity world and are developing a comprehensive plan for a continuous stream of new products over the next five years.
